I saw a Plaubel 6×7 in about 1997 in a case in front of Phnom Penh Cambodia camera store. My great buddy and mentor Ron who among other things taught photography at Newton North High School in Boston had a great camera collection, with Leicas hanging off a little Christmas tree. I Thought about this Phnom Penh Plaubel but didn’t go for it. I like the square actually and I would get a Rolleiflex GX 2.8 if my Malaysian lottery ticket still to be bought, comes in. In the meantime I dragged my C330 all around KL today and this good beast is just a bit to heavy for me now. But it does take different lenses. Arbus used a C220 and maybe a C330 and maybe a Rolleiflex, too. I like looking down at a ground glass – because as I told a waiter here about two hours ago, everything looks beautiful. But I am not sure about lugging this to Ulaanbaattar. Well, I have to stop in Bangkok anyway. Not that Fuji 645 is more to my liking but these are getting dear and how many cameras can I lug with some of the budgets limiting one to just 7KG in the cabin and no personal item. Well, the idea is find an airline that gives more. But more means less. No studio, no domicile, no darkroom yet — just strangers passing. But not Americans! Happier folk who when they see the Mamyflex ASK to have their pics taken, sometimes. And also to help me with this beast for me these days, Guinness seems to lubricate the wacky Rube Goldberg shutter thang.
